Autonomous Machinery
Neousys’ systems have been used in agricultural environments to increase productivity and ensure workers’ safety, all while keeping costs low. In one case study, a customer fitted their tractors with Neousys computers connected to cameras, sensors and Lidars, which allowed multiple tractors to work in the field while one farmworker controlled the machines remotely. In applying autonomy technology to tractors, farms can reduce costs by requiring only a handful of skilled people controlling the tractors, rather than many workers driving the machines themselves. Not only does this reduce the need for multiple skilled laborers, but it also minimizes the number of farm-vehicle-related accidents. Additionally, the increase in productivity from multiple tractors allows farms (and other agricultural environments) to meet their production goals. The systems can also be customized to various field types and programmed to predict maintenance issues on the tractor, which minimizes vehicle operation downtime. Since many Neousys rugged industrial computers are dustproof and IP-rated waterproof, they are the ideal choice for working in the field under various weather conditions.
Fruit and Vegetable Harvesting
Neousys edge AI technology can also automate harvesting practices. An AI robot identifying fruits and vegetables for harvest can replace human laborers and thereby cut down on work-related injuries. This would also ensure workers do not need to be subject to unfavorable weather and working conditions. The edge AI system can be taught to pick, inspect, classify and sort different fruits and vegetables. It can also package and prepare the food, so it is ready for transport to distribution centers. Edge AI robotics used in the field can ensure worker safety while also increasing productivity. Where extreme weather conditions would interrupt a laborer’s work, Neousys’ patented heat dissipation design allows the Edge AI system to continue its operations around the clock.
Fruit and Vegetable Distribution
Neousys’ Nuvo embedded systems have also been deployed to automate the fruit/vegetable distribution process, which requires wide temperature operation, rich I/O connectivity and high CPU/GPU performance. A Nuvo embedded system is an ideal fit for these requirements, as Neousys’ patented heat dissipation design prevents overheating, throttling and hot-weather-related performance issues. The I/O connections allow for multiple cameras in the inspection site to capture all angles of the fruit/vegetable and therefore detect any quality issues that may prevent it from going to market. Once images are captured and processed, an advanced algorithm is required to sort them which requires a high-performance CPU/GPU. Neousys’ client initially used a Nuvo embedded system in conjunction with CCD cameras but has also considered the NRU series embedded systems to use alongside GMSL2 cameras.
Forestry VR and Machine Vision
Neousys Edge AI technology can also benefit the forestry industry. When the system is combined with machine vision and virtual reality technology, it streamlines the forest logging process into a single person operation. Instead of multiple people functioning in separate capacities as truck drivers and crane operators the computer, along with virtual reality goggles, allows one person to do both jobs. The machine vision and VR technology offer a clear view of the working area, which allows truck drivers to navigate the vehicle along tricky terrain and around tight spaces. Instead of crane operators taking over once the truck is onsite, the same system allows the driver to operate the crane from the car cabin. Since workers do not need to leave the car cabin, this limits the time they are out in the hazardous zone and thereby minimizes work-related accidents.
Swine Farming Measurement System
Neousys machine vision systems can also be used to measure animals. In one case study, the POC-200 was connected to cameras and drivers to scan and measure pigs on a farm. The machine vision measurement system offers farmers a quicker and safer way to assess their livestock, which allows them to reach their productivity goals quickly.
Weedburner
Neousys embedded systems have been combined with AI processing power and concentrated laser technology to detect and burn weeds on farms. The embedded system is deployed onto an AMR and controls a laser which burns the identified weeds at the root, ensuring they do not grow back. This helps farmers get rid of weeds without subjecting them to extreme weather conditions or using herbicides that leave chemical residue. It not only reduces the manpower required but it can also operate 24/7 which increases efficiency for the farmers.
